Music Ministry

The music included in corporate worship at First A.R.P. Church is designed to enhance the worshiper’s understanding of God, to give voice to their desire to communicate with God through praise, confession, lamentation, and thanksgiving, and to assist worshipers in responding to God’s revealed Word.

We regularly include in our congregational singing traditional and new hymns, choruses, and global songs. The Worship Team leads the early service in worship that features a blended musical style with emphasis on contemporary music. Although grounded in a traditional musical style, the 10:55 service incorporates contemporary musical elements in choral anthems and congregational responses. Trip McGill leads congregational hymn singing from the 16-rank Wicks organ, and we regularly incorporate instrumentalists to energize congregation singing. In both services, choirs demonstrate stylistic flexibility and musicality.

Music Opportunities for Children

Cherub Choir is the music and choral experience specifically designed for kindergartners and first graders. Children in this choir have opportunities to explore their singing voices, play rhythm instruments, and explore music concepts through movement and music games. Cherub Choir meets on Wednesday evening, 7:00-7:25pm.

Junior Choir is a more focused choral experience for children in second through fifth grades. The singers develop vocal technique and choral skills, learn hymns, and prepare to lead the congregation in worship on a regular basis. Junior Choir rehearses on Wednesdays, 5:00-5:45pm.

Joyful Noise is a music rotation that offers children in grades 2-5 opportunities to play handbells, Orff instruments, Boomwhackers, and percussion instruments. Singing and basic music reading skills are important components in each class. Joyful Noise occurs on Wednesdays, 6:30-6:55pm.

Unity Choir provides an opportunity for children, youth, and adults to sing together. Anyone 4th grade and older may participate in this ensemble that is designed to build community as we sing praises to God. Music reading skills are not expected or required. This group meets on a periodic basis on Wednesday nights, 6:30-6:55pm.

Music Opportunities for Youth

Youth Choir, open to all middle and high school students, is designed to be a continuation of the learning begun in Junior Choir. Singers will continue to develop vocal technique (particularly as it applies to the adolescent’s changing voice), learn hymns, explore a variety of musical styles, and lead the congregation in worship on a regular basis. Youth Choir meets on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:10am, in the Adult Choir Room.

Youth who are interested in playing handbells are eligible to participate in Celebration Ringers (see below).
