Music Ministry
Children
Cherub Choir is the music and choral experience specifically designed for kindergartners and first graders. Children in this choir have opportunities to explore their singing voices, play rhythm instruments, and explore music concepts through movement and music games. Cherub Choir meets on Wednesday evening, 6:15-6:45 in Room 211 in the education building.
Junior Choir is a more focused choral experience for children in second through fifth grades. The singers develop vocal technique and choral skills, learn hymns, and prepare to lead the congregation in worship on a regular basis. Junior Choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoon, 5:00-5:45 in Room 312 in the education building.
Joyful Noise is a music rotation that offers children in grades 2-5 opportunities to play handbells, Orff instruments, Boomwhackers, and percussion instruments. Singing and basic music reading skills are important components in each class. Joyful Noise occurs on Wednesday evening, 7:00-7:25.
Youth
Youth Choir, open to all middle and high school students, is designed to be a continuation of the learning begun in Junior Choir. Singers will continue to develop vocal technique (particularly as it applies to the adolescent’s changing voice), learn hymns, explore a variety of musical styles, and lead the congregation in worship on a regular basis. Youth Choir meets on Sunday afternoon, 5:15-6:00.
Youth who are interested in playing handbells are eligible to participate in Celebration Ringers (see below).
Adults
Adult choirs provide musical leadership for each worship service on Sunday morning. The Early Service Choir rehearses at 6:30 on Wednesday evening and the 11:00 service Chancel Choir rehearses at 7:00. Together, this group of singers prepares music for special events and festive worship in the choir room.
The Celebration Ringers prepare hand bell music for traditional worship at 11:00 on Sunday.The Ringers, open to adults and youth, rehearse on Wednesday evening, 6:15- 7:00 in the hand bell room.
The Praise Team, comprised of instrumentalists and singers, provide leadership for congregational singing during 8:30 blended worship and periodically share special music. This group, open to adults and youth, rehearse on Wednesday evening at 7:30 in the sanctuary.
Pianists in the congregation are invited to serve as accompanists for hymn singing during 11:00 worship.
Special Events
Bonclarken Music Conference occurs annually in July with opportunities for singers from kindergarten through adults. The Conference offers reading sessions for various choirs, voice instruction, and organ workshops with talented clinicians in addition to swimming, crafts, Nibble Nook, nightly entertainment, a talent show and other traditional camp fun.
