What to Expect

We welcome you in the name of Jesus. We are a gathering of believers in Jesus Christ who come together each week to grow deeper in our relationship with God, worship him, and to care for one another.  We’re each a work in progress and daily in need of God’s undeserved love.  We hope you will join us as we seek to worship and serve the one true and living God.

When you arrive at 317 S. Chester St. you will notice that the front entrance is facing a busy one-way street. There is parking immediately behind the sanctuary and in the side parking lot along Second Avenue.  First ARP has also received permission to park in the parking lot of the law offices immediately across from the building.  As you walk into the front entrance you will be welcomed by greeters who will hand you a Sunday bulletin.  If you have young children they will direct you to the Educational Building through the breezeway to your left where there is childcare available for infants through three years old.  Four and five-year old children remain with their parents for the first part of the worship service and then may attend worship care for Pre-K and K where they will be dismissed before the sermon.  You are free to sit wherever you like in the sanctuary.  If you need help finding a seat or have any special needs or concerns there will be ushers in the back to help you.

Worship is the most important thing we do at First ARP. The aim for our worship services is for them to be God-centered and full of reverence and joy.  Both of our worship services are structured exactly the same way and contain times of praise, prayer and proclamation of God’s Word.  Our 8:30AM service contains both ancient hymns and modern worship songs led by the gifted musicians on our praise team.  Our 11AM service contains traditional and modern hymns with organ and piano along with a well-led choir.

You will notice that Scripture is woven throughout our worship service and is honored as God’s Holy Word. One of the ways we recognize this is by standing during the reading of Scripture. The Bible is the basis for the pastor’s sermon and helps us understand what God has done for us in Jesus Christ and the gospel’s implications for our lives.

Worship is a corporate experience and so we will often read parts of the service together as we praise God and pray to Him. The bulletin will be your guide in this process and it will be easy to follow along.

Please don’t hesitate to make any needs you have known to us. Our ushers and greeters are here to assist you.  If you have any spiritual questions or needs after the service the pastors will be at the back of the sanctuary to greet you and there will be two elders who would be delighted to speak or pray with you at the front of the church.

We look forward to having you in worship with us.
