Music in Worship

The music used in corporate worship at First A.R.P. Church is designed to enhance the congregation’s understanding of God, to give voice to their desire to communicate with God through praise, confession, lamentation, and thanksgiving, and to assist worshipers in responding to God’s revealed Word.

We regularly include in our congregational singing traditional and new hymns, choruses, and global songs.  The Praise Team, led by Justin Bumgardner and comprised of outstanding musicians, leads the the 8:30 service in worship which features a blended musical style with emphasis on contemporary music.

Grounded in a traditional musical style, the 11:00 service occasionally incorporates contemporary musical elements in choral anthems and congregational responses.  Trip McGill leads congregational hymn singing from our 33-rank Wicks organ which has recently undergone a full restoration and the addition of an oboe section and zimblestern.  Organ restoration

Other traditional instruments are often incorporated in worship to glorify God in music.Worship music

In both services, Dr. Kenney Potter conducts our adult choirs with stylistic flexibility and musicality.

Director of Music Ministry, Dr. Heather Potter, also directs our children’s and youth choirs.  These young musicians participate in worship on a regular basis.

Karen Willis leads a group of excellent ringers who enjoy contributing their music to God’s worship using our collection of Whitechapel Foundry hand bells.

Should you feel called to serve God musically, please contact Heather Potter by email at or by calling the church office.
